For applicants planning to study for a short period, the countries often divide the student visa into Short Term Student Visas or Long-Term Student Visas. Short-term visas are often given to students who plan to take a short language course or a diploma certificate course, and the entire duration is limited to 3 months (90 days). Long-term visas are given to students planning to study degree courses that will extend beyond three months. These could include internships and small certificate programs of six months and beyond. European Union countries often have this broad classification.
The student visas are designated based on the type of student, classified on the basis of the level of degree (undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral), an exchange student, or a student applying for a vocational/diploma course. Here, the student’s degree program is quite relevant. However, in these categories, the first point of distinction is not how long the program is, but rather what kind of student you are.

- Offline Visa Application Process: The offline visa process requires the candidate to download the application form, fill in the details and send the application form to the required authorities.
- Valid passport: The first and foremost requirement is to have a valid passport.
- Proof of funds: Countries want to know what are your source of funds, how you shall finance your education, and manage your living expenses.
- Proof of acceptance by the respective institution: While applying for your student visa, you may need to show the acceptance letter of the institution/university where you shall study.
- Medical examination report: Every country requires that international students must undergo a medical test from the list of doctors authorized by them. It is recommended that you do this a few days before you start the visa application as the doctors need some time to prepare the medical reports.
- Student visa interview: You need to prepare well for the visa interview, as you won’t get a visa without clearing it.
- Language proficiency: Learning the native language of your destination country is a must. It is important for English-speaking countries to provide language assessment exams for students, for example, IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE.
